Auf Wiedersehen, Pet?

2018-03ShowbizzIs there anyone on the planet – apart from Katie Price, obviously – who has had such acute and public man trouble as Cheryl Tweedy-Cole-Fernandez-Versini? It looks as though poor little Liam Payne is the latest to bite the dust after reports emerged that La Cole was furious about his tendency to “overshare” their domestic disagreements via social media. It is also rumoured that our Liam was also still smarting from several rejected marriage proposals. Whatever the reason, it looks as though the couple is heading for the skids. Far be it for me to submit some distinctly non-sisterly comments about La Tweedy’s latest domestic mishap, but her 2003 conviction for racially aggravated assault after her attack on cloakroom attendant Sophie Amogbokpa leads us to believe that she will have no problem in fighting her corner when it comes to battling for custody of Bear, the couple’s child who was born in March 2017. Gloves off, Liam – something tells us that you’re going to need to fight hard and fight dirty!

Serena’s Childbirth Nightmare

She might look like the physically fittest woman on the planet, but it seems that Serena Williams’s experience of giving birth to her first child, daughter Olympia was far from straightforward. Describing her shock and horror when she developed a “slew of health complications”, the tennis star recently revealed how she nearly died on the delivery table and spent the first weeks as a new mother confined to bed. Serena had to undergo emergency surgery to remove a massive abdominal haematoma, echoing the pulmonary embolism that she experienced back in 2011. Doctors worried that parts of the original ball of blood had broken away and were travelling to her lungs, as her violent coughing led to the Caesarean incision bursting open. Fortunately, all was well in the end, but medical experts agree that things were touch and go for a while. Just as well all that tennis has left her in such prime condition.

Valentine’s Curse Hits Jen and Justin

Is Jennifer Aniston the Cheryl Cole of Hollywood? We’re only asking because her love life seems as much of a mess as our Chezza’s. After a four-year relationship with actor Daniel McDonald, Jen married Brad Pitt in 2000 after dating him for two years, but the wheels fell off towards the end of 2004, when gossip alleged that Brad had been getting a little too close to his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star, Angelina Jolie. Relationships with actor Vince Vaughn and musician John Mayer followed, but it wasn’t until she met actor Justin Theroux in 2011 that things started to look rosier on the romantic front for the former Friends star. The couple married in August 2015 and all looked fine for a while until (it is alleged) they found it impossible to agree on where their permanent base should be. Despite having bought a Bel-Air house together shortly after they first started dating, it seems that friction between the pair followed that classic California v NYC dilemma. Still, we should look on the bright side – at least they can each choose where they would prefer to settle now!

A BRIT Rowdy

February was, as tradition dictates, the time of the BRIT Awards, which this year was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall. It is rumoured that Whitehall, who has parted company with his long-term girlfriend Gemma Chan after six years together, was seen whispering sweet nothings into the ear of the 22 year-old Best British Female and Breakthrough Act winner, Dua Lipa. It really has been Lipa’s year, with a string of chart successes and a number of high profile live appearances, including some sold out fixtures in notoriously sniffy and ‘seen it all before’ LA. If she can keep up that level of activity and success throughout 2018, then lucky old Jack Whitehall, we say!

Wedding Bells for Idris

We seem to have been just a little obsessed with celebrity splits lately, so it’s wonderful to be able to report that everyone’s favourite action hero, Idris Elba proposed to his girlfriend, Sabrina Dhowre last month. He didn’t do it by halves either, choosing a movie event at a cinema in London to get down on one knee. Public celebrity declarations are as rare as hen’s teeth, so naturally this very public proposal appeared on news reports on the BBC and SKY News. The couple reportedly met when Elba was filming The Mountain Between Us in Canada and ‘came out’ as an item at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Elba has been married and divorced twice, so here’s hoping that it’s third time lucky for him. With a new series of Luther being slated for 2018 it could be described as the best of times and the worst of times for female Idris fans. We envy you, Sabrina!
