Belmare, Paradise Found

San Pedro Paseo has long been associated with its eclectic mix of outdoor sporting pursuits. In just the last month of morning walks I have witnessed yoga,volleyball, boxing, football, keep fit, pro swimmers, a plethora of personal trainers and even the occasional tightrope walker perched precariously between two trees!

Weekend additions of quaint stalls selling everything from sombreros to swimwear add to the casual vibe with varied visual entertainment at every step .

Benefitting,as it does from literally miles of free parking this healthy hotspot can now boast a fabulous new restaurant .  “Bel Mare” is the latest culinary offering from the talented team of long term Marbella staple “Smallworld cafe “ .

Sitting nestled opposite surfers corner at the far end of the seafront and Currently offering chic interior and Al fresco outdoor dining options this all new eatery will soon be adding the possibility to sip sundowners right on the beach .

On the day of our lunchtime visit the surf was up and the restaurant was bustling with hungry holiday-makers and locals alike, all clamouring for a nice spot to people watch and enjoy some sustenance .

Once seated and introduced to our hosts we decided to dispense with our normal selection method and rely on the chefs recommendations . This departure from the norm proved to be inspired as our feast began with colourful plates adorned with Melon and prosciutto ,spring salads and sizzling prawns pil pil  followed by baby clams in white wine with fresh parsley and cayenne chili . House speciality Bel Mare risotto  was served next with mussels, squid and prawns sat atop perfectly cooked Arborio rice .

This divine dish proved to be  a  perfect prelude to  two awesome pizzas. A Diavalo with mozzarella spicy Italian sausage and Kalamata olives was paired with a  Ricotta and rocket creation which I couldn’t match on the menu so just presumed chef was pleased with the returning empty plates and had now decided to show off .. perfect !  A plate of grilled Calamari with Pesto concluded a perfect afternoon on the Paseo .
