Timeless Elegance, UDesign showcases Villa Nabu.

Sometimes a design is born that is just timeless. Creating a calm, relaxing, stress-free space never goes out of style.  UDesign’s latest project takes them all the way to Abu Dhabi where they have designed a sublime waterfront palace.

The client wanted to retain the feeling of Middle Eastern culture and architecture, but only in a subtle way. He didn’t want the traditional domes, or too many columns, piers and arches, instead he was keen to blend the distinctive Arabic style with modern, contemporary architecture. UDesign took this brief and created a stunning, modern home with Islamic architectural touches using ordered repetition, radiating structures and rhythmic geometric patterns to bring the Middle Eastern flavour into the design without dominating it.

They created lovely light rooms, using soft, muted colours and brought lots of natural greenery into the inside, creating cooling interior gardens in various places throughout the home. The solid stone granite sculpture is illuminated at night, along with the interior gardens, bringing a beautiful ambience to the interiors.

The UDesign team have created beautiful, expressive spaces that are perfectly balanced. The main living areas on the ground floor are the large chill-out room, that gives you a different view from each of it’s sofas and has the artistic, amoeba-like Vibia light hanging in the centre; a formal lounge with double height ceiling, and a more intimate family room with a kitchen, dining area, lounge, large terrace and it’s own wrap around swimming pool. There is also a pool at the front of the house which creates an infinity feeling with the view of the canal beyond.

In the formal lounge, the wall sculpture appears as a shimmering gold material falling down the wall and was created specifically for this space. Other wall murals feature a geometric pattern that can also be found on the exterior of the house. In the hallway this pattern is repeated on the ceilings and the walls, continuing the exterior design into the interior.

Although the colours of the interiors are soft and muted, there is one stand out purple sofa in the hallway. Jason Harris, CEO of UDesign said “Well, that’s a UDesign trademark. We can’t not have any strong vibrant colours in our designs, there’s always something that stands out”

The lighting choices compliment the soaring ceilings and the handmade, mosaiced columns with the hallway in particular boasting some stunning wall sconces. Other stand out pieces include the majestic double doors at the entrance to the dining room which are made from olive tree roots.

The whole project has a minimal, calm feel to it – it’s a neutral, toned-down, peaceful design. There is no clutter or unnecessary furniture, just beauty and space.
