Maher Mansour

Hairdresser to the stars Maher Mansour opened his Marbella salon in May this year, and Salon Maher quickly became the go to destination in Marbella for great hair and an amazing experience. After being the official hairdresser of the Marbella Fashion Show and a very busy first summer, we spoke to Maher about his background, journey to where he is now and his plans for the future.

Tell us about your journey from Syria to the Netherlands, and now to Marbella?

I was born and grew up in Damascus in Syria and always wanted to be a hairdresser. I studied hard, travelled internationally to train and built up my reputation as a top hairdresser, with a celebrity following and regular appearances in the media and at high profile events. I built a successful business in Damascus, with two salons and a team of 20 hairdressers that I had trained in my unique approach to hairdressing.

Unfortunately, the political situation became unstable, the war broke out and Syria became a dangerous place to be. After a traumatic event outside of one of my salons, where a shoot-out took place and six people were killed, I knew it was time to go. The very next day I fled to the Netherlands as a refugee to start a new life.

All I wanted to do was work and build a life and a business in the Netherlands and within eight months I had started my own business, opening a small salon in Utrecht. I quickly experienced very high demand, and within a year, I went from 25m2 salon to 250m2 and quickly grew my team, bringing over my highly trained staff from Syria.

I have built a successful business in the Netherlands over the last 11 years and now have salons in Utrecht and Rotterdam. But I was ready for a new challenge and to find a new home for my young family and Marbella stood out as the perfect place both for the business and for our family.

How do you define yourself as a hairdresser?

I feel like being a hairdresser is in my soul, and I instinctively know what a woman needs as soon as she walks into the salon. My approach is innovative and unique, and I love to push the boundaries of what is possible in hairdressing, never being afraid to think outside the box and develop my own techniques.

At Salon Maher we treat our clients like Queens, pampering them and offering the very best experience. Our aim is for every client to leave Salon Maher feeling a million dollars, with improved confidence and a sparkle in their eye.

What’s next for Salon Maher?

We’ve just opened a Hair Spa in Marbella and we can’t wait for people to discover this amazing Japanese ritual. It combines massage, exfoliation, and deep cleansing to promote hair and scalp health, encourage relaxation and overall well-being. We will also be bringing permanent makeup and beauty treatments to Salon Maher, to give women a complete hair and beauty experience.
