Beyond Black & White

Claudia Doring Baez, a Mexican American artist, is showcasing her latest exhibition titled “Friends of Richard Pousette-Dart” at the Wadström Tönnheim Gallery. The exhibition features her interpretation of Richard Pousette-Dart’s black and white photographic portraits of friends, family, and artist colleagues. Pousette-Dart was a pioneer in abstract expressionism, known for his groundbreaking techniques like drip painting.

Doring Baez has reinterpreted Pousette-Dart’s historical portraits by infusing them with contemporary vibrancy through bold and colourful oil paintings. Her work explores the boundaries of still-life and portraiture, transcending the constraints of time and place. Through her paintings, she pays homage to the early expressionists and allows viewers to experience art history in a new way.
