The rise and rise of Roberto Santamaría

Now the proud co-owner of no less than five super successful hospitality operations, Society Marbella talks exclusively to Mosh Group founder Roberto Santamaría.

Born and raised in the picturesque town of Salamanca, some two hours west of Madrid, the 37 year old talks us through his various roles within the company and a little about himself.

Where and what did you study?

I studied journalism and public relations in Madrid.

Do you speak any other languages?

Yes I’m fluent in English and am looking for another language to learn.

What were your boyhood dreams?

Well, as with most young males, I often dreamed of being a professional sportsman and representing my country. Honesty, I wanted to be so many things!

What are your favourite sports?

I like to think of myself as very sporty and I do like to keep in shape. Although I enjoy football, golf and tennis, if I had to choose, I would have to say that golf is my favourite pastime.

Owning so many different hospitality venues you must have access to many different styles
of food which is your favourite cuisine?

That’s an easy one for me! Pasta... always pasta.

Talk us through your day to day...

I am in touch daily with all departments with a personal focus on party bookings and the overall PR function. Each day offers up new challenges which in turn keeps everything fresh and unique.

Where do you unwind or holiday?

Any time I am surrounded by nature I truly relax and de-stress. Nature is so amazing... give me a forest over a
beach any day!

Why did you end up choosing hospitality as a career?

I am social person, always loved being around people... I also have a passion for good food and music so it seemed a natural progression.

What do you love most about owning your own company?

Well, there are many benefits but I like that I “own” my own decisions, both good and bad. It improves my thought process knowing any decisions I make can be both profitable or detrimental to the group, it sharpens my focus.

Do you have a favourite venue within your group?

I love that they all have their own unique personality but if I had to pick then I guess Mosh as our first project would have to be closest to my heart.

Finally, what are your long term aspirations for the brand?

To become an established worldwide brand with diverse venues in international cities. Yes, that would be awesome!
