Gym Talk - Max Fitness Gym by Reebok Functional
Max Fitness Gym by Reebok Functional only opened its doors in May this year, but it has already gained a solid reputation as one of the best places in the area to work out and reach fitness goals. With stunning views of the Med, experienced trainers, unparalleled equipment and fitness installations by Reebok, it’s a powerful combination for success.
We caught up with David Segorbe who runs Max Fitness, to find out more about this uber-cool gym:
David, the gym looks amazing! What do you love most about managing Max Fitness?
Actually for me, taking over the Max Fitness project was quite a challenge. From the beginning we were very clear that we had to be a place of reference, and for this we had to differentiate ourselves from the rest; have the intention of not just being one more option that the client could choose between a range of centres.
We spent months studying the shortcomings of the sector and the area. We began to develop a centre that in just four months has set a new trend, has become a national benchmark and today the firm REEBOK FUNCTIONAL uses our premises as a showroom for the set-up of their centres.
Today our centre is already at full capacity and is known for having the latest technology REEBOK machinery, a last generation line of cardio “INTENZA FITNESS”, an Open BOX equipped with REEBOK FUNCTIONAL and most importantly, which is what defines us, a great team. Our attention is totally personalised from the moment our customers enter through the door until they achieve their goal.
Of course, we must mention our unbeatable location, over the well-known MAX BEACH and our breath-taking sea views.
What I like most about Max Fitness is seeing the project come to life, seeing how people enjoy it and, of course, seeing how in just a few months we have become well-known in the area.
As a 3-time world power lifting champion and record holder in deadweight, where did your passion for fitness originate?
I have been competing since I was 7 years old when I started playing in my school basketball team. Sport is something that was already in me at birth. I feel like I was born to compete and have gone through basketball, archery, squash, fitness and Strongman… all of them at competition level.
12 years ago, a friend encouraged me to participate in a Powerlifting competition and this was undoubtedly the discipline that marked a before and after in my life, to the point of winning in 2016 the championship of the world of powerlifting in England.
Powerlifting is a very tough discipline, but it is by far the one that has brought me the most in my career both at a sports and personal level. It’s a lifestyle without a doubt.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to train up to champion level?
The advice I would give to someone who wants to compete in the elite is that you have to be very disciplined and very realistic. Never being in a hurry to reach our goal and setting short, medium and long-term goals - that is the system that I’ve always used.
If you go for the fast road, I assure you that you will get a big disappointment, and unfortunately, very few athletes train their mind, which is also very important because usually we are not designed to manage failure.
The level at which we are competing today requires us to give 300%, but not only in training, day to day; diet, physiotherapy, psychologist ... Everything adds up and everything is important. To compete in the elite, it is not enough to train a couple of hours a day, but to live for and because of it. You have to make many sacrifices if you want to be number 1.
We hear you are filming for Spanish TV over the coming months, tell us more about that…
Yes, I am currently directing a charity project called “The Challenge” in which we film documentaries about extreme sports events that no one has ever done and use them to raise public awareness about the difficult situations that many people go through in their lives.
These documentaries fight against inequality and raise funds for research on diseases and social causes.
Through our NGO “Say Less Do More” we channel all the contributions that people make to us and we take care of allocating them to the causes for which we are fighting.
In our documentaries, we have broken world records, we have passed extreme tests and pushed the body to the limit.

Aside from the incredible sea views and state-of-the-art equipment, what kind of services and activities do you offer at Max Fitness Gym?
Our “signature” and what undoubtedly sets us apart is our personalised attention.
We want our clients to feel part of our team, and therefore we make a very tailored treatment… From a personal interview on arrival where our team of trainers collect information to develop a training plan fully adapted to the physical capacity of the client and his goal, such as daily monitoring to ensure we provide a 100% customized service.
We have also just added a personalised diet and nutrition service, in which our technician, performs a metabolic study of the client in order to develop an adapted meal plan and keep track of it.
We ensure that we can offer a comprehensive service so that anyone can improve their health and fitness avoiding injuries and above all, enjoying the process.
Another highlight of our facilities is that we are an official REEBOK FUNCTIONAL centre and offer a wide range of collective classes taught by qualified and certified personnel.
Functional Training, HBX Boxing, TRX suspension training, HIIT high intensity, GAP or Pilates are some of our outstanding activities.
